The Cholesterol Charity

HRUK was founded in 1967 by a working heart surgeon, Mr David Watson, who is now our President. When we asked him why he set up this pioneering charity, he simply said that he knew, even all those years ago, that the knowledge and expertise was out there to help more heart patients, but research was needed to make it affordable and practical.

Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A) is a coalition of individuals, patients groups, charities, professional medical groups and industry allies. These groups work together under the Arrhythmia Alliance umbrella to raise awareness of cardiac arrhythmias and to promote timely and effective diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias leading to an improved quality of life.

Children's Hearts Charity was established in October 2000, to help children born with heart defects (CHD), particularly in those countries, where disadvantaged and poor children do not have access to the necessary health services. A heart defect (abnormality) that is present at birth is known as a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD). Nearly all of these are life threatening. Any baby can be born with a congenital heart defect. Medical operation is often the only option for these children to have another chance to live

The Children's Heart Federation is the leading children’s heart charity and the umbrella body for voluntary organisations working to meet the needs of children and young people with heart conditions and their families.

The North Staffs Heart Committee is the leading local heart charity for North Staffordshire. Founded in 1979, to date it has raised over £4 million supporting research, diagnosis, treatment and welfare. The organisation is an independent charity serving the interests of cardiac patients residing or receiving treatment in North Staffordshire and is NOT associated with any other national or local charity of similar name.

Young at Heart is a registered charity offering help and support to families of babies and children diagnosed with heart defects. All these children and their families have spent many weeks/months in hospital undergoing major heart surgery. Some children have had numerous operations throughout their short lives. Sadly, some do not survive and for others their only hope is a heart transplant.

Gift is a registered national charity that offers support to children and families who are affected by transplantation. We aim to provide both emotional and practical support throughout the journey of transplantation. Every year there are an increasing number of children who require major organ transplantation, through our work we aim to promote transplantation and enhance the lives of children and families touched by it.

The Brighton Heart Support Trust, a local, registered charity was formed in 1987 to promote “Excellence in Cardiac Care”.

HeartGuard was set up in 1978 by Professor Douglas Chamberlain, the then Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.To date we have trained over 100,000 Personnel The Heartguard Community Resuscitation Scheme now covers all of Sussex. Heartguard was the first community resuscitation training scheme in the country.
