The Dementia Research Centre, based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, is one of the UK's leading centres for clinical research into dementia, and the hospital is the lead centre for trialling new drugs to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease (which causes the majority of dementia).

The Alzheimer's Research Trust is the leading UK research charity for dementia and is funding world-class research to find ways to cure, prevent or treat Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. We also provide free information on dementia and the treatments available.

The objectives of 'for dementia' are to: • promote and develop admiral nursing - a specialist nursing intervention focused on meeting the needs of carers and supporters of people with dementia • provide high quality training for professionals working with older people, carers and people with dementia • promote good practice in dementia care • work in partnership with the NHS, social services, other voluntary groups, carers and people with dementia • contribute to national policy on dementia, older people and carers’ issues • influence practice and policy development
