The Horse Trust, the oldest horse charity in the world, was established in 1886 to help the plight of the working horses in London.

The BHS is a registered charity - number 210504 - and its activities are overseen by the Charity Commissioners. The Patron of the Society is Her Majesty The Queen. The Society's primary objectives, as published in the Memorandum of Association and amended by way of a Special Resolution of the Society passed on 23rd June 2006, are: 1. To promote and advance the education, training and safety of the public in all matters relating to the horse; 2. To promote the use, breeding, well-being, safety, environment, health and management of the horse for the public benefit; 3. To promote community participation in healthy recreation involving the horse. 4. To promote and facilitate the prevention of cruelty, neglect or harm to horses and to promote the relief, safety, sanctuary, rescue and welfare of horses in need of care, attention and assistance; 5. To promote and secure the provision, protection and preservation of rights of way and of access for ridden and driven horses over public roads, highways, footpaths, bridleways, carriageways, public paths and other land. Horses for the purpose of the objects means any member of the family Equidae.

The ILPH is the largest rehomer of horses in the UK, with nearly 1,800 on our loan scheme. There are around 300 horses in our four Rehabilitation Centres. The UK Welfare Hotline takes around 30,000 calls a year leading to around 1,500 separate investigations by our 16 Field Officers.

eteran Horse Welfare is a registered charity that is dedicated to the welfare of older horses and ponies. Launched in March 2004 by the Veteran Horse Society, the Veteran Horse Welfare was set up to provide advice and support to welfare concerns, provide rehabilitation and care for mismanaged and rescued veterans. The Veteran Horse Society was launched in 2001 by Julianne Aston and was the first registered society within UK and Europe, solely dedicated to the older horse and pony.

Moorcroft was established in order to find new permanent homes for racehorses that were no longer suited to the job of racing. These horses come from a variety of racing backgrounds and it is the charity’s function to find them suitable alternative homes based on their abilities and needs.

Voluntary organisation set up for the protection of Equines in Ireland, which includes rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of horses and ponies.
